Provenance

Provenance is information about entities, activities, and people involved in producing a dataset, which can be used to form assessments about its quality, reliability or trustworthiness.

Semantic Container automatically generate machine readable provenance records to document data processing steps performed in the container. Additionally, when moving data between Semantic Container, existing provenance information is automatically extend which enables reproducibility along a data pipeline.

To make provenance machine readable Semantic Container use the W3C PROV-Ontology and covers basic operations for data transfer through the Starting Point classes and properties – depicted below. For special purposes this can be extended with own classes and properties.
